Atletico Madrid in advanced talks with Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat

Atletico Madrid are in advanced talks to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, whose contract expires next summer.

L’Equipe reports that Los Rojiblancos are close to agreeing personal terms, although they are yet to finalise the transfer fee with La Viola.

The 26-year-old has become one of the sought-after midfielders in Europe following his sensational World Cup, where he helped Morocco reach the semi-finals for the first time in history.

He also played a vital role in Fiorentina reaching the final of the Europa Conference League, where they lost to West Ham United.

Barcelona are long-term admirers of Amrabat, but they haven’t made a significant move since their failed loan approach in January.

Rumours of Atletico’s interest in Amrabat have ramped up in recent times, whilst the player also previously stated that he would be a good fit in Diego Simeone’s system.

Fiorentina will likely demand around €30 million for the midfielder.

Atletico have a lot of uncertainties in their midfield, with Saul Niguez and Geoffrey Kondogbia linked with exits.

Saul has been subject to proposals from Saudi giants Al Ittihad and Al Nassr, who are looking to enhance their collection of world-class European stars. Kondogbia is wanted by his former club AS Monaco.

Their exits could unlock the arrival of Amrabat, who would bring experience and quality to Atletico’s midfield.

Atletico are also plotting a move for AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez. However, his €80m valuation makes him an unattainable target.
