Saudi Pro League club make improved offer for Romelu Lukaku, player now open to move

Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli are keen on signing Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The 30-year-old wants to leave Stamford Bridge and has been pushing for a move to Inter Milan, where he spent last year on loan.

However, the Nerazzurri do not have the funds to sign the Belgian centre-forward. They asked Chelsea to take him on loan again this season, and the Blues refused.

Lukaku wants to return to Italy but knows Chelsea must recoup some value for his services. They spent £97 million to sign him in 2021, but he failed to deliver.

Chelsea plan a massive summer overhaul that will see several players leave the club.

Lukaku is one of the names on their list. He was looking difficult to shift, but the emergence of the Saudi interest has given the club renewed hope.

Chelsea have drawn ire from fans and clubs alike for their transfer dealings because Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has invested with Chelsea’s owners, Clearlake Capital.

The two-time Champions League winners needed a club to sell their unwanted stars to and have used their connections with the PIF to sell some players to the Gulf nation.

Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech is joining Al Nassr, where he will link up with Cristiano Ronaldo. Kalidou Koulibaly will join Al Hilal for around £17m.

N’Golo Kante has left Chelsea as a free agent for Saudi champions Al Ittihad. The Chelsea legend will join former international teammate Karim Benzema.

Al Ahli are close to signing Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy and are keen to add Lukaku to their squad.
