Paris Saint-Germain could bring back Xavi Simons for just €6m

Xavi Simons only left Paris Saint-Germain to join PSV Eindhoven last summer, but he may soon return to the Parc des Princes for an insanely low price.

The 20-year-old moved back to his home country to launch a senior career after finding first-team opportunities in Paris hard to come by, penning a five-year contract.

But PSG negotiated a buy-back clause in Simons’s deal, effective in July 2023, allowing them to re-sign the Netherlands international for a mere €6 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the highly-rated youngster is waiting for Les Parisiens’ call before deciding on his future, with several other elite European clubs vying for his signature.

Simons enjoyed a stellar 2022/23 season in the Eredivisie, bagging 19 goals and nine assists from 34 appearances to finish the campaign as the league’s joint-top goalscorer.

The attacking midfielder’s jaw-dropping exploits in Eindhoven haven’t gone unnoticed, with Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly adding him to their list of targets.

However, if Romano’s update proves valid, PSG would have a significant upper hand on the Premier League sides if they decide to bring Simons back to Ligue 1.

Listed alongside Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala as a Golden Boy nominee, the Dutchman has quickly become one of the most sought-after prospects in Europe.

While at the time of his PSG departure, competition for places was as stiff as it gets, the French heavyweights now brace themselves for a transitional period.

Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos are already gone, with numerous underperforming first-team players expected to follow in their footsteps soon.

Several anticipated exits would open up space for Simons. Given his bizarre release clause, PSG would be foolish not to pursue his signature.

Even though Arsenal recently emerged as the most likely destination for Simons, the Dutch starlet’s future now depends on Les Parisiens’ next move.
