Manchester United want £20 million for Fulham transfer target Fred, but the Cottagers are reluctant to meet this valuation.
According to the Telegraph, both clubs are hopeful they can reach a compromise. The Brazil international has 12 months left on his deal with the Red Devils.
Fulham have expressed their interest in the 30-year-old midfielder, but they have not spoken to the player about personal terms.
United will not offer Fred a new contract. The player is open to leaving for Fulham to work under Marco Silva.
Man United may need to lower their asking price for Fred to facilitate the move. He initially signed for £52 million from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 on a four-year deal.
United triggered a 12-month contract extension last December to protect the player’s transfer value.
Following United’s loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup, Fred expressed his desire to discuss his future with manager Erik ten Hag.
Fellow midfielder Scott McTominay is also reportedly up for sale. Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial and Anthony Elanga could also leave.
Eric Bailly and Alex Telles, who have been out on loan at Marseille and Sevilla, are on the transfer list.
Ten Hag has urged the club to sign Chelsea’s Mason Mount. The Blues rejected a £40 million bid for the England international, but United are preparing an improved offer of £50m.
Chelsea are holding out for £70m, but United are unlikely to meet that demand for a player with only one year remaining on his contract.
Another priority for United is securing a centre-forward, with Harry Kane being Ten Hag’s first-choice target.
However, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy does not want to sell the England captain and United could move for other targets.
