Saudi-based club plot ambitious move for Man City star Bernardo Silva

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva is the latest Premier League star to receive a contract proposal from a Saudi Pro League club.

However, according to The Athletic, the Portugal international is expected to turn down any approach from the Middle East in favour of remaining in Europe.

The unnamed Saudi club have opened talks with his representative Jorge Mendes and contract proposals have been discussed, but there is yet to be any formal offer on the table.

Speculation over the 28-year-old’s future at the Etihad Stadium continues to mount despite only extending his contract in March.

Man City are keen to hang on to the mesmerising forward whose contract runs until 2025 amid unwavering interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.

The former AS Monaco man has been open about wanting to explore other countries, and finally winning the Champions League trophy with Man City could only fuel those desires.

Silva played a prominent role in Man City’s treble-winning campaign, making 55 appearances across all competitions and chipping in with seven goals and eight assists.

Having won everything there is in English football, the five-time Premier League winner could opt to explore other competitions abroad, although there is still a Club World Cup bid to look forward to with Man City.

Spanish champions Barcelona have been hot on his trail since last summer, but their financial problems have scuppered plans to lure him to Spotify Camp Nou.

The Blaugranas have since lost ground in the race for Silva’s signature, leaving PSG home free amid plans to bring him back to the French top flight.

The record Ligue 1 champions are restructuring their squad this summer, with star trio Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe expected to leave Parc des Princes. 

Silva could prove a shrewd acquisition for PSG, but the Portuguese midfielder is reportedly considering all his options, including remaining at Man City.
