Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain contract rebel Kylian Mbappe.
The French superstar broke the hearts of the PSG faithful when he decided not to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes any further than next summer.
Mbappe’s decision has forced the Les Parisien hierarchy to reconsider their stance on the player’s future and could be more receptive to offers this summer.
While PSG have not entirely given up on keeping the electrifying 24-year-old at the French capital, it is understood that they are unwilling to roll the dice and risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Mbappe’s contract fiasco has sparked numerous transfer rumours, with several European heavyweights already eyeing a mouth-watering move for the former AS Monaco prodigy.
Spanish giants Real Madrid remain the favourites to land the highly coveted star, but that has not stopped other clubs, including Man City, from popping up on the radar.
The Premier League champions are one of the few clubs that could rival Madrid for Mbappe’s signature amid reports claiming the Spanish giants are willing to pay a mammoth €200 million to land the Frenchman.
However, Guardiola has ruled out the possibility of the recently crowned treble winners entering a bidding war for Mbappe, claiming the France international already knows what his next move is.
“We are not going to go for Mbappe – everyone knows which club he wants to go to,” Guardiola said (via TyC Sports).
Madrid have long been courting Mbappe and could finally land their mega-money target this summer despite the player claiming he wants to see out his contract at PSG.
However, they are reportedly taking a more cautious approach considering how their previous attempt to lure him to Santiago Bernabeu panned out.
Guardiola also opened up about Ilkay Gundogan’s long-term future at the Etihad Stadium, with the Man City skipper has been repeatedly linked with a move to Barcelona.
“Hopefully he stays,” Guardiola added. “And if in the end, he goes to Barca, they will make an extraordinary signing.”
