Since leaving Bayern Munich in March, Julian Nagelsmann has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain to replace Christophe Galtier.
However, according to French publication L’Equipe, his long-anticipated move to the Parc des Princes will not happen, with the German and the club failing to agree terms.
Nagelsmann has been subject to transfer speculation since his unceremonious departure from Bayern, which nearly cost the Germans their highly coveted Bundesliga title.
He was previously linked with a move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea keen. But none of those moves materialised, leaving PSG in pole position to land his signature.
Both parties have been locked in negotiations, with PSG hoping to finalise contract terms this week. But the Ligue 1 champions will now have to look elsewhere in their search for Galtier’s replacement.
Galtier was relieved of his duties last week despite leading Les Parisiens to a record-breaking 11th Ligue 1 crown in his first season at the French capital.
The ruthless PSG bosses have heavily emphasised their preference for Champions League success and decided not to award Galtier a second chance after the club’s awful performance on the continental stage.
They also came close to relinquishing their league crown after beating the relentless RC Lens to the punch by a slender one-point margin.
PSG have been previously linked with several names for their vacant managerial position, including former Spain boss Luis Enrique and Bologna head coach Thiago Motta.
Nagelsmann was their preferred option to succeed Galtier with Thierry Henry as his assistant coach.
However, the recent setback could see them reopen contact with other candidates as they look to sort out their managerial issues before pre-season begins.
Reports suggest they are already in talks with a mystery candidate over the vacant role, who they expect to be able to announce as their new coach next week.
