Barcelona paying close attention to Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso

Barcelona are keeping one eye on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, in addition to top target Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan.

The Catalan giants are optimistic about signing the German midfielder, but they are yet to hear the player’s final decision.

Signing a replacement for Sergio Busquets is also among the priorities, but Barca are now exploring the possibility of adding a creative midfielder to the ranks.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca manager Xaxi is an admirer of Lo Celso and believes he can be the creative hub for talisman striker Robert Lewandowski.

After enduring a difficult spell with Spurs, Lo Celso bounced back at Villarreal after joining them on loan at the beginning of the last year.

The 27-year-old played an instrumental role in the Yellow Submarine’s fairy tale run in the 2021/22 Champions League, with the Spanish underdogs reaching the semi-finals.

A key figure behind Argentina’s Copa America triumph in 2021, Lo Celso failed to make it to the World Cup squad through injury.

However, Lo Celso made a significant impact after returning from injury, helping Quique Setien’s side secure Europa League qualification for next season.

Now back at Tottenham, the Argentine playmaker is waiting to learn whether he is part of new manager Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

Villarreal’s Alex Baena is also of interest to Xavi, but his hefty valuation makes him an unrealistic target.

Barca are also closing in on the signing of Athletico Paranaense’s Brazilian striker Vitor Roque.
