Bayern Munich to rival Aston Villa for Pau Torres

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are looking for new defenders and have turned their attention to Villarreal’s Pau Torres, according to Sport1.

The Bavarians are seemingly preparing for the departure of Lucas Hernandez, who has told them he won’t be signing a new contract.

They are also resigned to losing Benjamin Pavard, who has a year left on his deal and wants to leave.

Torres helped his side keep ten clean sheets in 34 La Liga appearances last season, winning 61% of his duels.

The 26-year-old is in the 96th percentile among defenders in the top five leagues for progressive passes. He is in the 99th percentile for progressive carrying.

The Villarreal-born centre-back has attracted the interest of several clubs with his performances domestically and in Europe.

Aston Villa are showing interest in Torres too. Villa manager Unai Emery coached him in Spain. He would provide competition for Tyrone Mings.

Juventus also have him on their radar. They previously wanted him to replace Giorgio Chiellini when he left for Los Angeles FC.

However, Bayern lead the race for the Villarreal man who has a €45 million price tag.

Torres is not Bayern’s only defensive target. They are also looking at Napoli defender Kim Min-jae.

The South Korean centre-half had a remarkable debut campaign with the Partenopei.

He won the league title and picked up the Serie A Defender of the Season award for his top-class performances.

Manchester United have shown the most interest in signing him, but suitors will have to pay a hefty fee to convince Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis to let the player go.
