Arsenal in talks with Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz

Arsenal have opened talks with Chelsea about a move across London for Kai Havertz, according to The Athletic.

Havertz joined Chelsea in 2020 and has blown hot and cold since he arrived in the Premier League.

He initially struggled under Frank Lampard following the big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen.

The German forward received a new lease of life when Tuchel was appointed, spearheading Chelsea to the FA Cup final and Champions League title.

Havertz struggled to be prolific the following season but helped Chelsea win the Super Cup and Club World Cup.

However, the 2022/23 season was another disappointing campaign, and there was no silverware to cover up some of his poor performances.

Chelsea feel they can move on from the German international, and the player is open to leaving Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid showed interest in signing Havertz as they scrambled for a replacement for Karim Benzema.

President Florentino Perez is reportedly a fan of the player and is considering a move, but Chelsea’s £75 million price tag is deterring him.

With Madrid stalling over a move, the way is clear for Arsenal to swoop. He could fulfil several roles in manager Mikel Arteta’s favoured 4-3-3 formation.

The Gunners will likely negotiate for a fee lower than £75m and hope the player will deliver on his initial promise in a more fluid attack.
