Gremio striker Luis Suarez has played down the rumours linking him with a potential reunion with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.
Messi recently announced that he will be joining the Major League Soccer outfit after parting company with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Argentine World Cup winner also revealed his desire to return to Barcelona, but the Catalan giants could not finance a move.
Rumours are rife about Messi being joined by some of his former Barca teammates in the United States, including his close friend Suarez.
However, the 36-year-old has labelled the reports fake, insisting he is happy at Gremio.
Suarez told El Observador: “It is false. It is impossible. I am very happy in Gremio and have a contract until 2024.”
After his short stint with his childhood club Nacional, Suarez moved to Brazil at the start of the year and has since been in a scintillating form for Gremio.
He has racked up 11 goals and eight assists in all competitions, evoking the memories of his prime years in Europe.
Another report from Diario AS suggests the €70 million release clause in his current contract makes it difficult for Inter Miami to sign him.
Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who recently bid farewell to Barca, have been linked with a switch to David Beckham’s franchise.
Messi’s compatriot Angel Di Maria is also on the wishlist of Miami after he recently announced his departure from Juventus.
However, the ex-PSG star wants to stay in Europe, with his former club Benfica interested in his services.
Miami are optimistic that Messi’s transfer can be the gateway for more high-profile signings.
