Chelsea have opened talks with AC Milan about signing goalkeeper Mike Maignan this summer, according to L’Equipe.
The Blues are desperately scouring the market for a new number one and have landed on the France international.
Chelsea want to sell one of their two goalkeepers this summer, as they have not been up to par.
Edouard Mendy started the season as the number one for Thomas Tuchel, who continued playing him despite some high-profile errors.
However, when Graham Potter arrived, he reinstated world-record goalkeeper signing Kepa Arrizabalaga into the team.
While the Spaniard made several crucial saves, there were situations where he showed that Chelsea needed someone better.
Arrizabalaga struggles with crosses and looks unsure when he comes out to claim high balls.
Chelsea want to sell Mendy this summer because he has only one year left on his contract. Arrizabalaga is more difficult to offload as he is on massive wages.
The Blues are keen on Maignan, but the Rossoneri do not want to sell him.
Maignan has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe over the past few seasons.
He first came to the limelight when he helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title in 2021, recording 21 clean sheets in 38 games.
The Cayenne-born keeper moved to Italy and helped Milan win their first Scudetto in 11 years. He kept 17 clean sheets in 32 matches.
Injuries have caused him to miss many games this season, but he still managed eight shut-outs in 22 league games.
It is unclear whether AC Milan will let Maignan go, but they may consider it if the Premier League club offers a massive sum.
Chelsea are also eyeing a move for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana if they cannot secure Maignan’s services.
