There has been plenty of speculation over Alphonso Davies’ future at Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old has been a key team member for the Bavarians since he joined the club from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018.
He has made over 150 senior appearances, helping his side win five Bundesliga titles and a Champions League trophy.
His impressive performances have reportedly sparked interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Los Blancos want to sign an upgrade on Ferland Mendy at left-back and believe the Canadian would be the perfect fit for their needs.
Mendy missed a large chunk of the season due to a muscle injury, making only 17 La Liga starts.
Davies will be out of contract in 2025, having penned his last deal three years ago.
Talking to Fabrizio Romano, the player’s agent Nedal Huoseh revealed his client was close to agreeing to an extension with Bayern.
However, the sackings of General Director Oliver Kahn and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic have thrown a spanner in the works.
He said: “We were almost there, I think. I was in Munich, and I woke up the next day… and I saw all the news that they had been sacked.
“I waited for a couple of extra days and nobody had reached out, so I jumped on a plane to Canada.”
“Right now, we haven’t made any decisions on anything, and he is part of the Bayern team. We can’t confirm anything, and we can’t deny anything.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Real Madrid, as a fan in general – you know, 14 Champions Leagues. It makes you proud when you see someone you manage linked with Real Madrid.”
“There is nothing concrete with any club – one club has to want to sell, another has to initiate talks, and then the player has to want to leave.
“We don’t know if those talks have happened between clubs and where those discussions have gone.”
Davies endured a disappointing 2022-23 campaign at Allianz Arena and probably needs a change of scenery.
The 22-year-old missed the last five Bundesliga matches after picking up a hamstring injury in April.
Madrid are the biggest football club in the world. It is a dream of many footballers to move to the Santiago Bernabeu and compete for silverware.
Davies could also be tempted to move to Spain this summer, but it remains to be seen whether Madrid will make a concrete offer for the left-back.
