Rangers announce the pre-contract signing of Jack Butland

Rangers have confirmed that Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland has joined them on a pre-contract deal.

The former England international will officially be registered as a Light Blues player on July 1.

Butland has agreed a four-year deal with the Scottish Premiership club, becoming their third signing of the summer.

His fellow Englishmen Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling have also penned pre-contract deals ahead of joining as free agents.

Butland is joining Rangers as Allan McGregor’s direct replacement after the veteran goalkeeper was released.

The 30-year-old will hope to hit the ground running at Ibrox and help the Gers reclaim glory next term.

Celtic won all three domestic trophies available this term, and Rangers are looking to respond.

They have also released Steven Davis, Scott Arfield, Filip Helander, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos.

More players are expected to be signed in the coming weeks, with Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers on their radar.

Butland brings plenty of experience and quality to the table and manager Michael Beale had been keen to quickly wrap up the deal.

The former Stoke City star spent the second half of the season on loan at Manchester United.

He did not get to make an appearance as the Red Devils challenged across all competitions all through his time with them.

They were keen to retain his services and offer double the wages Rangers offered.

However, the chance to play regularly and taste European football for the first time in his career was too much to turn down.
