Real Madrid plotting £100 million swoop for Harry Kane

Real Madrid are aiming to snap up Harry Kane in a deal worth £100 million, according to the Daily Mail.

With Karim Benzema recently announcing his departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid are in the market for a new centre-forward and have set their sights on Kane.

However, Los Blancos will have to fend off competition from Manchester United, who are also plotting to bring the 29-year-old to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.

Madrid’s interest in Kane is largely unsurprising, given Carlo Ancelotti’s recent comments about the striker.

“Harry Kane is a top player, but we have to respect Tottenham – he’s a Tottenham player,” Ancelotti was quoted saying by Manchester Evening News.

Kane’s preference is to remain in the Premier League and break Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals, but a move to Madrid may be too good an opportunity to turn down.

Tottenham are also reportedly more receptive to selling Kane abroad as opposed to a fellow English club which could give Madrid an upper hand in their pursuit.

Despite Spurs enduring arguably their worst season in 10 years last time out, Kane was a rare silver lining, netting 32 goals in 49 games across all competitions.

A lack of European football could see Kane’s time with Tottenham come to an end, but his current employers will do everything to try to keep him.

Kane is not the only Premier League player who could be on his way to Madrid this summer, with Chelsea’s Kai Havertz also on their radar.

Having said goodbye to Benzema, Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz over the last 48 hours, the La Liga giants are currently short of options at the top end of the pitch.
