Man City considering free transfer swoop for Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro

Manchester City are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Raphael Guerreiro on a free transfer, according to the Sun.

The Portuguese left-back will leave Signal Iduna Park when his contract runs out at the end of June, and Man City are among the clubs looking to snap him up.

Joao Cancelo is set to return to the Etihad Stadium after an eventful loan spell with Bayern Munich, but he has no future with the Cityzens after falling out with Pep Guardiola.

Bayern are uninterested in making his loan switch permanent and are one of the teams vying for Guerreiro’s signature, but they will face competition from Man City.

Guerreiro was a pivotal part of Dortmund’s push for the elusive Bundesliga title racking up four goals and 12 assists in the league.

He sparked the comeback in the final game against Mainz, spurring his side to a 2-2 draw, but his contribution proved futile as Der BVB ultimately fell short at the death.

Having confirmed his departure from Dortmund, the 29-year-old is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club, and Man City are lining up a bid for his services.

Any potential deal for Guerreiro could open the door for Sergio Gomez to leave Man City this summer after failing to establish himself as a first-team regular in Manchester.

The Spanish left-back joined the Cityzens in a £10 million move from Belgian side RSC Anderlecht last summer but has only made 23 appearances across all competitions this term.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is reportedly keen to reunite with Gomez at Turf Moor, having worked with the 23-year-old at Anderlecht.

Kompany helped the Clarets to a swift return to the Premier League after winning the Championship and is keen to reinforce his squad to cope with life in the top flight.
