The 27-year-old will return to the club he previously represented at youth level after a successful spell with Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse.
Van den Boomen’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Ajax. They want to bounce back from a disappointing third-place finish in the 2022/23 campaign.
Ajax lost the Eredivisie title to Feyenoord and the cup to PSV Eindhoven. They also performed abysmally in Europe in the Champions League and Europa League.
Van den Boomen initially rose through the ranks of Ajax’s youth teams. He moved on to ply his trade with FC Eindhoven.
Van den Boomen then embarked on a football journey that saw him move across SC Heerenveen, Willem II and De Graafschap before making his mark in French football.
He was pivotal in Toulouse’s impressive campaign in Ligue 2 in 2021/22, notching an impressive tally of 12 goals and 21 assists.
Van den Boomen has continued to shine this term, showcasing his creativity. He has contributed significantly to Toulouse’s cause, netting five goals and eight assists.
One standout moment was his exquisite free-kick against Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. The goal underscores his set-piece expertise and knack for producing crucial contributions.
With his return to Ajax, Van den Boomen’s arrival will inject creative energy into the midfield.
His technical proficiency, vision and ability to control the tempo of the game will undoubtedly enhance the team’s attacking prowess.
Van den Boomen’s familiarity with the club’s philosophy and playing style should ease his integration into the squad.
Ajax needed to spark positivity at the club, and this signing could prove to be a masterstroke.
