AC Milan are edging closer to reaching a pre-contract agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Daichi Kamada on a free transfer, according to Relevo’s Matteo Moretto.
The Serie A giants have met with Kamada’s representatives, but the player has not signed a contract, with small details holding up the potential transfer.
However, it is reportedly only a matter of time before negotiations are finalised, with the Japanese midfielder waiting until the DFB Pokal final before signing on the dotted line.
The Europa League champions have already confirmed that Kamada will leave Deutsche Bank Park when his contract expires at the end of the season after refusing to extend his existing deal.
Kamada’s availability sparked interest from several clubs across Europe, including Benfica, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
He was also linked with a move to Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund with reports suggesting both parties were close to an agreement.
However, those negotiations collapsed, and the versatile midfielder looks set to join Milan, where he will sign a five-year deal while pocketing a reported €3 million per season at the San Siro.
The 26-year-old has been associated with Frankfurt since arriving from Japanese outfit Sagan Tosu in the summer of 2017.
He spent the following season on loan at Belgian club Sint-Truidense before establishing himself as a staple with the Bundesliga side, racking up 178 appearances.
Kamada’s departure has long been confirmed, but the midfielder remained a key part of Oliver Glasner’s side, contributing 16 goals and seven assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
However, it was not enough to help Die Adler secure European qualification as they finished seventh on the Bundesliga table, with Bayer Leverkusen edging them out on goal difference.
Kamada could still leave Frankfurt as a winner, with Glasner’s side set to face RB Leipzig in the German Cup final. It will be his last match in a Frankfurt shirt.
