Marco Asensio will leave Real Madrid in the summer as PSG talks progress

Marco Asensio is set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, reports The Athletic.

The Spain international attacking midfielder is out of contract this summer.

Madrid and Asensio were in talks for months over a contract extension.

The 27-year-old was given an offer to extend his deal but decided against taking it.

He wanted a more prominent role in Carlo Ancelotti’s side and has told staff at the club’s training complex of his decision.

Asensio will not be short of suitors, with Aston Villa keenly monitoring his situation.

Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in recruiting the Spaniard.

Talks between the Ligue 1 club and the Madrid star are progressing, according to Le10Sport.

However, Villa and PSG will not be the only clubs looking to sign Asensio for free.

He has played 50 games across all competitions for the La Liga club this term, with 12 goals and seven assists to his name.

The former Real Mallorca star started just 18 of those fixtures and is keen to move elsewhere for regular football.

PSG could offer that with changes expected in their attacking ranks this summer.

Lionel Messi is expected to leave, while Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have also been linked with exits.

Asensio will also play regularly at Villa, but moving to Parc des Princes could be more appealing.

He will get the chance to challenge for major silverware, including the Champions League, every season.

The attacker will take his time before deciding, and suitors will do their best to land him given his huge quality.
