Liverpool accelerating efforts to sign Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool are pushing hard to sign Brighton & Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Talks between the parties are reportedly well underway, with Jurgen Klopp hoping to have the deal sealed by the next month.

Newly-appointed sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is keen to make the 2022 World Cup winner his first summer signing.

He’s already due in Liverpool to complete his initial short-term deal before getting down to work, with Mac Allister sitting atop his list.

Known for his meticulous pre-season planning, Klopp is eager to secure new signings as early as possible to address the shortcomings of this season.

With Liverpool set to miss out on Champions League qualification for the first time under his stewardship, the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager doesn’t want to waste any time.

He aims to commence pre-season on July 8, with the squad scheduled to embark on a training camp in Donaueschingen, located in Germany’s Black Forest, starting nine days later.

Klopp will ideally want to have his transfer dealings sorted out before, which is why the Reds have already initiated contacts with Brighton to arrange the Argentine’s switch to Merseyside.

The Liverpool manager is also interested in acquiring Chelsea’s Mason Mount to enhance the team’s homegrown representation.

Signing Mac Allister remains a priority, given that the Reds will likely have to wait for Mauricio Pochettino’s decision on Mount before making any move to lure him to Anfield.

Braced for the imminent departure of the 24-year-old and his midfield companion Moises Caicedo, Brighton have set their sights on outgoing Liverpool stalwart James Milner.

As recently confirmed by manager Roberto De Zerbi, the Seagulls are also on the cusp of landing Mahmoud Dahoud on a free transfer after Dortmund refused to renew his contract.

However, it’ll take much more than Die Borussen’s outcast to replace a player of Mac Allister’s quality, especially now that Brighton have secured a first-ever European qualification.
