Erik ten Hag lauds Casemiro impact at Man Utd following 1-0 win over Bournemouth

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hailed midfielder Casemiro for impacting the club since his arrival from Real Madrid last summer.

The defensive midfielder scored the only goal as United defeated Bournemouth 1-0 in their Premier League clash today.

Casemiro scored an acrobatic effort that helped bring his side’s Champions League dreams for next season close to fruition. They can secure it with a win over Chelsea on Thursday.

Ten Hag said the 31-year-old has exceeded expectations since his £72 million move in the summer.

After his winner against the Cherries, Ten Hag said (via Manchester Evening News): “I think he keeps surprising us, Casemiro. He’s such a brilliant football player.

“We know him as a very good organiser, positioning, anticipating, intercepting a lot of balls, winning duels, fighting, keep the team together.

“But also in possession, his passing, his distribution, but also finishing. He’s just a great football player.

“Absolutely (he has exceeded expectations), by far. So I think one of the things that came out of our analysis, we miss a player in the midfield, a strategist.

“We searched for the strategist. It was not easy because there are not that many in the profile who fits to the standards of Manchester United. So we are happy we found him and his contribution is massive.”

Ten Hag admitted that they missed Casemiro during his suspension across eight games. He hailed him for providing the midfield balance.

United are close to securing Champions League football for next season. Despite living on the edge against Bournemouth, they got the three points.

Ten Hag asked his side to complete the job against Chelsea at Old Trafford, and they will rightly fancy their chances against the underperforming London outfit.
