Aaron Ramsdale signs new contract with Arsenal

Aaron Ramsdale has put pen to paper on a new, long-term contract at Arsenal following an impressive season in the Premier League.

As confirmed by the Premier League website, the highly-rated goalkeeper has renewed his deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Ramsdale has gone from strength to strength this season, recording 13 clean sheets in 36 Premier League matches to help Arsenal secure a first top-four finish since 2015/16.

Although his outstanding exploits between the sticks will likely prove insufficient to end Arsenal’s 19-year title drought in the top flight, the 25-year-old has become an influential figure at the club.

He has won back-to-back Castrol Save of the Month awards, earning the April prize for his phenomenal save from Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah in a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Delighted with the new deal, the Englishman didn’t hide his happiness in an interview with the club’s website after signing the contract.

“It’s a huge amount of pride – it’s something you work for,” Ramsdale said.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve been at the club for a month or for four years – you always want to get the next one and push on with the team.

“To get it after two years, I’m buzzing. It just means I can concentrate and keep my head down. Hopefully, after a few more years, I’ll get another one and carry on living the dream at the football club.”

Ramsdale should be in goal when Arsenal take on Nottingham Forest on Saturday, seeking redemption following last weekend’s 3-0 thumping to Brighton & Hove Albion on home turf.

With four points separating them from table-topping Manchester City, who also boast a game in hand, not even a win at the City Ground could be enough to bring them back into the title race.
