Eintracht Frankfurt have opened talks to sign Olympique Lyonnais striker Moussa Dembele on a free transfer, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The 26-year-old is set to leave Groupama Stadium when his contract expires at the end of the season, and Frankfurt are looking to pounce.
Dembele has fallen out of favour at Lyon, with Laurent Blanc preferring the experienced Alexandre Lacazette to lead the line for Les Gones.
The former Arsenal man has repaid the manager’s faith and is in contention for the Ligue 1 Golden Boot this season, having notched 25 goals in 32 league appearances.
Lacazette’s goalscoring form has left Dembele out in the cold, and the Frenchman will leave Lyon at the end of the season, with Frankfurt keen to snap him up.
The Germans are preparing for a major summer shake-up with several players set to leave the Deutsche Bank Park this summer, including star striker Randal Kolo Muani.
The France International has been a standout performer in Oliver Glasner’s side, racking up 14 goals and ten assists in 30 Bundesliga outings.
His ability to score and create goals, coupled with nimble feet and individual prowess, has sparked interest from several European clubs, including Bayern Munich.
Frankfurt have slapped a huge price tag on Kolo Muani, but that has done nothing to deter the interested parties, with Bayern readying their chequebook ahead of a summer swoop.
Kolo Muani is also attracting interest from Premier League giants Manchester United while Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on his signature.
With no shortage of suitors in their star striker, Frankfurt are resigned to losing the 24-year-old this summer, and Dembele could be his replacement.
Frankfurt are known to be shrewd operators in the transfer market. They will pocket a huge sum when Kolo Muani leaves but are looking to snap up a replacement without paying a penny in transfer fees.
Dembele is open to joining Glasner’s side, but the Germans will face competition from Olympique Marseille and Napoli, who are also keen on the striker.
