Preview: Leicester City vs Liverpool – prediction, team news, line-ups

Monday night football pits two teams from opposing sides of the Premier League table as relegation-battling Leicester City trade tackles with top four hopefuls Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes fell to a 5-3 defeat against Fulham last Monday and are in desperate need of a positive result against the Reds, especially after Nottingham Forest picked up a vital point against Chelsea earlier today.

Leicester have won just one of their last 13 games (D3, L9), and the odds are firmly stacked against them against Liverpool, but another defeat will spell trouble for the Foxes.

Liverpool enter the contest on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Brentford – their sixth in a row as they continue their late charge for a top-four place.

With Newcastle United faltering against Leeds United, Jurgen Klopp’s side sit four points adrift of the Magpies and Manchester United and could close the gap to one point with a win on Monday.

Having won the reverse fixture at Anfield, the Reds will be keen to do the double over Leicester, but they should be wary of the desperate Foxes, who are fighting to retain their Premier League status.

Match Preview

Leicester face an uphill task of earning at least a point against Liverpool, but they will take solace in the fact that they have won their last two league games against the Reds on home turf.

However, the Foxes have managed just those two wins in their last 11 league meetings with Liverpool (D1, L8), and their current form does little to suggest they can upset the rampant Reds again.

Leicester have only kept one clean sheet across their last 13 league meetings with Liverpool, with the Foxes conceding 27 goals in that span.

They will need to run a tight ship at the back if they harbour hopes of an unlikely victory, although their manager Dean Smith has lost four of his five league meetings with Klopp (W1).

Having won the reverse fixture, Liverpool will be looking to do a league double over Leicester for the first time since the 2019/20 campaign when the Reds last won the Premier League title.

They have survived close calls in their recent games, having won their last five league matches by a one-goal margin – mostly owing to their defensive lapses.

However, at this stage of the season, the results are more important, but Klopp will be keen for his side to leave nothing to chance in their upcoming fixtures.

Diogo Jota has scored seven goals in his last seven games against the Foxes but will be keen to break his King Power voodoo with none of his strikes coming on Leicester’s turf.

Leicester City vs Liverpool Potential Line-ups

Leicester City (4-2-3-1): Daniel Iversen; Danilo Pereira, Wout Faes, Caglar Soyuncu, Timothy Castagne; Wilfred Ndidi, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall; Tete, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes; Jamie Vardy.

Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil Van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; Curtis Jones, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson; Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz.

We Say: Leicester City 1-3 Liverpool

Leicester have only failed to score once in their last ten league games, so they should have enough to trouble Liverpool’s backline despite the Reds coming into the tie on the back of successive clean sheets.

However, their defensive deficiencies play right into Liverpool’s hands, with Klopp’s side poised to exploit their leaky defence and come away with maximum points.
