Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag sets target for Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes there is a crucial next step Alejandro Garnacho needs to take at the club.

The 18-year-old came off the bench to ensure United’s Premier League victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers with a late goal.

Garnacho recently returned from injury and has been getting back to full fitness. After making the bench in their loss to West Ham United, he got his opportunity today and took it well.

The former Atletico Madrid youngster was sent through on goal and showed composure before slotting home to double their lead.

Ten Hag believes the next step for Garnacho is to nail down a spot in the first team.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag said (Man Utd’s official website): “Garna, everyone can see it. He came in and did almost everything good and scored a great goal that will give him belief.

“It’s good for us for the rest of the season that he’s back, and can have an impact. One of the aspects of the biggest talent is that they are mature.

“First, they take responsibility then second, they are mature to bring in the skills and have belief that they can dominate opponents.

“Once again, he did it. He has had a big impact in many games – whether starting or coming on. He’s straight into the game, and that’s so important for the squad.

“I’m happy we can bring in young players and, hopefully, he will progress so quickly that he can compete for a starting XI position because that is his next challenge.”

However, Ten Hag outlined certain areas for Garnacho to improve his game. The former Ajax manager said he has to make better decisions with the ball.

Ten Hag said knowing when to make certain moves defines top-class players. He praised Garnacho as a brave and massive talent.

The United manager said the pathway is open for youngsters to break into the first team if they work hard enough.
