Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante out for the season with a groin injury

Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that midfielder N’Golo Kante is out for several weeks after suffering a groin injury.

Kante will likely miss the rest of the campaign. The French international was ruled out of today’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

He will miss the remaining games against Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Kante has missed most of this season through injury. The 32-year-old Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur and subsequently struggled to recover.

Kante only returned to action in 2023 in the final days of former boss Graham Potter. He has stayed fit since then, building form gradually.

However, he has suffered another injury setback that will have Chelsea thinking twice about their new contract offer for the former Leicester City star.

The Blues want to extend his contract that expires this summer and Kante wants to stay in London, but his injury problems are frustrating.

Chelsea may cut ties with the central midfielder after seven years at the club. Even if they don’t release Kante, they must revamp their midfield this summer.

There are links to Manuel Ugarte, Declan Rice, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Those links will only intensify with Kante sustaining his latest injury.

Mateo Kovacic will also be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer after five years in London. He has only one year left on his deal with the Blues, and his form is horrendous.

Both parties are open to a departure, and the Blues will also consider a replacement for the Croatian International.
