Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak could be out for the rest of the season

Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak is dealing with an injury issue that could rule him out for the rest of the season, according to Marca.

The Slovenian goalkeeper has not trained since April 25 and may not play again for Los Colchoneros until next season.

Oblak is reportedly suffering from a cervical contracture with a protrusion in the C4-C5. He feels pain and cannot play.

The 30-year-old has undergone several tests and consulted several neurologists. Unfortunately, none of them has found the solution to Oblak’s problems.

The doctors have asked him to be conservative with the injury, but he wants more definitive answers. He reportedly wants to travel to his country to speak to a specialist.

He must decide whether to continue with conservative treatment or undergo surgery.

The Madrid club will likely not risk him again this season. They will continue with Ivo Grbic between the sticks.

Los Colchoneros have claimed second place ahead of city rivals Real Madrid in La Liga. They will hope to hold onto that lead until the end of the season.

Atletico will take consolation from their league finish despite a poor European campaign and elimination from the cup.

Barcelona can win the La Liga title with a win over Espanyol this weekend. The Catalans lead Atletico Madrid by 13 points.

Atletico will be without Stefan Savic, who broke his finger, and Marcos Llorente, who has an adductor problem.

The pair are in a race against time to play before the season ends, but they could return. However, Mozambican left-back Reinildo is out for the rest of the season.

Atletico visit Elche this weekend, aiming to consolidate their second place with another three points.
