Angel Di Maria targets Europa League title to complete his trophy haul

Juventus attacker Angel Di Maria has set himself the target of lifting the Europa League trophy this season.

The Argentine international has won major silverware throughout his career including the Champions League, Copa America and World Cup.

However, the Europa League is not one of the trophies in Di Maria’s trophy cabinet.

The Bianconeri have muscled their way past Nantes, Freiburg and Sporting CP into the semi-finals where they face Sevilla.

Speaking ahead of the game tomorrow, Di Maria said (via Sky Italia): “I’ve only played in the Europa League with Benfica. I’m missing a trophy, and I’m focused on this.

“For me, all the trophies are important. At the beginning of the season, it was tough because of the injuries. I couldn’t give 100%. Now we have to win. We want a final for the fans too.”

The former Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain attacker also praised his manager Massimiliano Allegri.

He called Allegri ‘an exceptional coach’ and believes he has brought something different to the table with Juventus.

The Italian has steered Juve through some rough periods this season. They could end the season as runners-up in Serie A and Europa League winners.

Di Maria also confirmed he is in talks with the club over a contract extension. His deal expires this summer, but his mind is on the Sevilla tie.

However, his agent is in advanced talks to extend Di Maria’s one-year contract, with the player willing to take a pay cut to continue his journey in Turin.
