Arsenal responded strongly to their embarrassing 4-1 defeat at Manchester City with an impressive home victory over Chelsea on Tuesday.
The Gunners sealed a 3-1 success at the Emirates Stadium, with Martin Odegaard scoring twice to play a vital contribution.
The victory briefly moved them to the top of the table before Man City displaced them again following their 3-0 win over West Ham United.
Pep Guardiola’s side are the favourites for the league title but the Gunners haven’t given up. They will face Newcastle United on Sunday in what is regarded as a stern test for them.
Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by the Magpies in their previous meeting in January and the reverse fixture is expected to be just as tough.
W look at the Gunners’ latest injury news before Sunday’s huge clash.
William Saliba
Saliba sustained a back injury during the Europa League match against Sporting Lisbon in March. He has since been on the sidelines.
Manager Mikel Arteta revealed after the game on Tuesday that he doesn’t know whether the young centre-back will be fit for this weekend.
Gabriel Magalhaes
Gabriel was substituted by Rob Holding in the 85th minute of the match against Chelsea.
There were fears that he had picked up an injury and would miss the Newcastle clash.
However, football.london are reporting that the 25-year-old should be fit to play on Sunday.
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Tomiyasu picked up a serious injury during Arsenal’s Europa League match against Sporting.
He overstretched for a tackle early in the game and was forced to come off after receiving treatment on the pitch.
The London club later released a statement confirming the Japanese will not be able to play again this season.
Arteta has expressed fears Tomiyasu could be out for up to six months, which could see him miss the start of the new campaign.
Mohamed Elneny
Elneny last played for the Gunners in January against Oxford United in the FA Cup.
He has since been on the sidelines with a knee issue he sustained in training ahead of their league encounter against Tottenham Hotspur.
The club later confirmed the Egyptian will be out for an extended period but didn’t provide any information regarding an expected return date.
