Napoli have been crowned the Serie A champions of the 2022/23 season following last night’s draw against Udinese.
Victor Osimhen scored the equaliser in the second half to lead the Partenopei to their first Scudetto in 33 years.
Napoli have dominated the entire season, sitting 16 points clear at the top. They have got their hands at the title with five games to spare.
The Partenopei faithful stormed into the pitch and were spotted surrounding the players to celebrate the success.
Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis addressed the fans in the wake of the Scudetto triumph, saying the victory belongs to everyone.
“You have always said ‘We want to win’ – and we all won together,” De Laurentiis said (h/t Sky Sport Italia).
“Thanks to everyone, everyone here on Sunday against Fiorentina for the big party.”
The Partenopei chief regretted the failure to win the Champions League but urged his side to continue their dominance in Serie A in future.
“Today is the culmination of an expectation that lasted 33 years,” De Laurentiis added. “When I arrived here, I said it would take ten years to go to Europe. Promise kept in advance.
“Then I said we would win the Scudetto within ten years and we succeeded in advance. Now the goal is to win it and win it again. We miss the Champions League.”
“This team was weighed down with responsibility. We needed fresh air and the ability to fly high as a group and not as individuals who rowed as a brake.
“The project never stops – today it is a starting point and not an arrival point. It starts again with Spalletti.”
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti broke down in tears after ending years of waiting to win the Scudetto.
The Italian gaffer arrived at Maradona Stadium last summer but has done spectacular work to transform Napoli into one of the most formidable sides in Europe.
“Seeing the Neapolitans smile is the greatest emotion – they are the ones who transfer the emotion to you,” Spalletti said.
“Winning is mandatory because great coaches and great players have passed here, there is an audience that has seen Maradona play and probably his protection is behind this result.”
Osimhen, who has been pivotal in Napoli’s impressive run this season, tops the Serie A scoring charts with 22 goals.
His attacking partner Khvicha Kvaretskhelia, one of the breakout stars this season, has provided the most assists (10) in Serie A this term.
