Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag urges Antony to control his passion

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has urged attacker Antony to control his passion.

The Brazilian winger was in a heated confrontation with Brighton & Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk during their Premier League clash yesterday.

Antony triggered the problem by fouling Alexis Mac Allister, sparking a melee that resulted in him and Dunk being booked.

Ten Hag said (via Man United’s website): “I think his passion is a strength. Of course, there is a certain level. You have to control it.

“You need passion and desire to win your games and battles in the game.

“I think this is very strong with him. He is very ambitious.

“So, as I say, don’t go over the top. Stay focused on your game and what the game needs. If he does that, he is a great player.

“I think his performance, his improvement. It is quite obvious and clear.”

Antony wears his heart on his sleeve. His emotions run high throughout the game, and he is prone to confrontations.

He came off in the 76th minute against Brighton, and Jadon Sancho replaced him.

However, Antony will hope to keep his place in the team when they face West Ham United tomorrow.

Ten Hag announced that Alejandro Garnacho could feature in the game. The 18-year-old has been out since March.

Scott McTominay and Raphael Varane will miss the visit to the London Stadium.
