Aston Villa and Leeds United to go head-to-head for Branco van den Boomen

Highly-rated midfielder Branco van Boomen has decided against renewing his contract at Toulouse, according to Fabrizio Romano.

With his current deal at Stadium de Toulouse running out at the end of the season, the 27-year-old will leave as a free agent in the summer.

After turning down the club’s offer to tie him down to a new long-term contract, the versatile midfielder can choose between a variety of attractive destinations.

Among clubs interested in offering him an escape route from Ligue 1, Aston Villa and Leeds United are keen to bring him to the Premier League.

However, they’ll need to beat Sevilla, Wolfsburg and several other clubs to capture his signature, with van den Boomen emerging as one of the most sought-after prospects in the transfer market.

While Villa could bring the lure of European football to the table, the Whites must ensure top-flight status amid a faltering survival bid before making any transfer decisions.

Unai Emery’s side are close to breaking a 12-year waiting for a European night, which could prove a powerful incentive should they move for the Dutchman.

Despite boasting Boubacar Kamara and Douglas Luiz in the middle of the park, the Lions could use the services of a creative midfielder to add some flair to the team next season.

They’ll need depth in their squad if they’re to remain competitive on multiple fronts, so it’s a little surprise that they’ve taken an interest in the Ajax academy graduate.

Van den Boomen excelled for Toulouse in Ligue 2 last season, helping the club earn top-flight promotion with a mouth-watering tally of 21 assists in 37 league appearances.

Although his output has naturally dwindled in the elite division, he’s still racked up six goals and eight assists this term, playing a crucial role as Le Tefece head into the season finale nine points clear of the drop zone.
