Fulham eyeing Bosman move for Alejandro Grimaldo

Fulham are interested in bringing Alejandro Grimaldo to the club as a free agent next summer, according to Sky Sports.

Grimaldo is in the final few months of his contract at Benfica and an extension to his seven-year stay in Lisbon seems unlikely at this stage, although he recently claimed that no decision over his future has been made yet.

“I still don’t know my future step, whether I’m gonna stay at Benfica or leave on a free transfer,” Grimaldo said, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.

“I’m focused on the league, then we’ll see.”

The Spaniard has been an impressive performer for Benfica this term, bagging two goals and eight assists in 28 outings as Roger Schmidt’s men sit four points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga standings with five matches left to play.

Unsurprisingly, Grimaldo is not short of admirers with Serie A giants Juventus reportedly keen on a move, while Fulham have now joined fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest in the race for the left-back.

Bringing in Grimaldo on a free transfer would be a shrewd piece of transfer business as Fulham look to hit new heights next season off the back of what has been a more-than-decent return to the top tier of English football.

Marco Silva’s men sit ninth in the Premier League table with 45 points from 31 matches.

The Cottagers are firmly in the hunt to qualify for European football and will look to bolster their squad in the upcoming transfer window.

Fulham brought in Layvin Kurzawa last summer to provide competition and cover for first-choice left-back Antonee Robinson.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain loanee has struggled for both form and fitness and is expected to return to the French capital at the end of the season.
