Liverpool midfielder James Milner close to signing for Brighton

Liverpool midfielder James Milner is reportedly close to signing for Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 37-year-old’s current deal at Anfield expires at the end of this season.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on extending his stay but the Merseyside club have given no indication of offering him a new deal.

According to Sky Sports, Milner is close to agreeing terms to join Brighton at the end of this campaign.

Burnley are also interested in the former England international, but he prefers a move to the Amex Stadium as he has been highly impressed by Roberto De Zerbi’s tactical innovation.

The experienced midfielder has made 26 Premier League appearances this term, but most of his appearances have come off the bench.

He will be looking to earn more opportunities at the Seagulls, who have enjoyed an impressive 2022-23 season.

Milner has been at Liverpool since 2015, when he joined the Merseyside club on a free transfer from Manchester City.

He has clocked up 327 senior appearances, bagging 26 goals and 46 assists.

Milner will depart Anfield as a club legend, having won a Premier League title, Champions League and FA Cup

He is also close to breaking Gareth Barry’s record of making the highest number of Premier League appearances in history.

The English footballer only needs to make 39 more appearances to achieve the feat, and he will hope to accomplish this at Brighton.
