May 2023 TV Guide: Ten Games To Watch

Football fans are in for a treat in May, with the upcoming schedule packed with a host of important games across numerous competitions.

These include Champions League semi-finals, Championship play-offs, National League Promotion Final and Europa League Final.

Read on as we take a look at ten games to watch in May, starting with a clash that could have a big bearing on the top-four race in Serie A.

Roma vs Inter Milan – Serie A – May 6

While Napoli already have one hand on the Serie A title, the battle to join them in the top four will likely go down to the final game.

Roma and Inter have been in the mix for much of the season and their clash at the Olympic Stadium could be crucial to their respective hopes.

Inter were defeated 2-1 by Roma in the reverse fixture earlier this season and will be desperate to gain their revenge this time around.

Roma vs Inter Milan will be broadcast on BT Sport.

Real Madrid vs Manchester City – Champions League – May 9 & 17

We’re going to cheat a little in our May 2023 TV guide by including both legs of the Champions League semi-final tie featuring Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Madrid had little difficulty sweeping Chelsea aside in the previous round and are expected to make life extremely difficult for Man City.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side have looked imperious over the past few weeks and will fancy their chances of defeating the 14-time European champions as they push for a treble.

Real Madrid vs Man City will be broadcast on BT Sport.

AC Milan vs Inter Milan – Champions League – May 10 & 16

We’re using the same artistic license with our next recommendation, with the other Champions League semi-final tie likely to be a classic.

Neither of the Milan clubs were expected to reach this stage of the competition, but now have a golden opportunity to progress to the final.

The two sides split their league meetings this season, with a one-goal margin separating them on each occasion. Don’t be surprised if this tie goes to penalties.

AC Milan vs Inter Milan will be broadcast on BT Sport.

Championship Play-Offs – May 13/14, 16/17 & 27

More rule-breaking here, with the five Championship play-off games guaranteed to provide fans with plenty of thrilling moments when they are staged.

Four teams will contest the two-legged semi-finals, with the winners going on to face each other at Wembley Stadium on May 27.

With Premier League riches up for grabs for whichever team gets the job done, you would be hard-pushed to beat the drama provided by these games.

The Championship Play-Offs will be broadcast on Sky Sports.

National League Promotion Final – May 13

Most neutral football fans will be hoping to see Notts County participating in the National League Promotion Final at Wembley on May 13.

County were pipped to automatic promotion by Wrexham, leaving them facing the lottery of the play-offs despite collecting 109 points this term.

Free-scoring Macaulay Langstaff will be the player to watch if County progress to the final after smashing 42 goals during the regular season.

The National League Promotion Final will be broadcast on BT Sport.

Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig – Bundesliga – May 20

Bayern Munich have not had things their own way as they chase their 11th successive Bundesliga title, with Borussia Dortmund pushing them hard.

Their clash with RB Leipzig on May 20 could be the pivotal game, particularly with their opponents chasing a top-four finish.

Three of Dortmund’s remaining four games are at home, which could give them a crucial edge over Bayern in the title race.

Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig will be broadcast on Sky Sports.

Manchester City vs Chelsea – Premier League – May 21

Man City’s recent 4-1 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium put them in pole position to win the Premier League title for the fifth time in six years.

Their home game against Chelsea on May 21 may be the day they get the job done, although the Gunners will be eager to keep the race running.

While Chelsea have nothing to play for after a miserable season, they will view this match as an opportunity to provide some measure of joy for their fans.

Man City vs Chelsea will be broadcast on Sky Sports.

Barcelona vs Real Sociedad – La Liga – May 21

Barcelona are well on course to win the La Liga title and their clash with Real Sociedad on May 21 may be the day their success is confirmed.

The Catalan giants triumphed 4-1 over Sociedad in the reverse fixture and will fancy their chances of completing the double at Camp Nou.

However, Sociedad are chasing a top-four finish and will be keen to make things as tricky as possible for the champions-elect.

Barcelona vs Real Sociedad will be broadcast on La Liga TV.

Manchester United vs Chelsea – Premier League – May 25

Manchester United went into the season aiming to end their recent silverware drought and secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

They completed the first half of that mission by winning the Carabao Cup in February and could add another trophy by winning the FA Cup.

Defeating Chelsea on May 25 may be the result that gets United over the line in their top-four pursuit and would set them up nicely for their Wembley showdown with Man City.

Man United vs Chelsea will be broadcast on Sky Sports.

Europa League Final – May 31

The month ends in style on May 31, with the Europa League final scheduled to be played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

The semi-final line-up sees Roma face Bayer Leverkusen, while Juventus meet Sevilla. The ties will be played on May 11 & 18.

Juventus are the favourites to win the competition, but it would be no surprise to see Jose Mourinho upset the odds and win another trophy with Roma.

The Europa League Final will be broadcast on BT Sport.
