How Arsenal can afford big summer signings after UCL boost

Arsenal recently booked their spot in the Champions League after a six-year wait following Brighton & Hove Albion’s 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest

The north London giants started the season with a top-four finish as their prime objective, and they have exceeded those expectations.

They are currently top of the Premier League with 75 points and have an outside chance of winning the title despite a four-match winless streak.

Regardless of how the season ends, they are set to receive a substantial financial boost for the 2023/24 season after securing Champions League football.

As per Swiss Ramble, the Gunners could receive an average of around £88 million for participating in the Champions League next season.

This constitutes an increase of around £63m from the revenues for their involvement in the Europa League.

Aside from this, the Gunners also stand to benefit from bonuses from other sponsorship deals for a top-four spot. It could take the figure to £100m.

Arsenal obviously won’t be able to use the entire amount on summer signings, considering an increase in player salaries due to the Champions League.

However, they should have more cash available compared to previous summer transfer windows.

Arsenal could also benefit from spreading the transfer cost over the next four to five years, thereby reducing the Financial Fair Play burden.

The Gunners have a busy summer ahead, and the primary area of focus could be the midfield department.

West Ham United’s Declan Rice and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo are among the players under consideration as they seek a new number six.

Judging by recent performances, it is pretty clear that the Gunners need another marquee central defender to compete with Gabriel and William Saliba.

Arsenal may also invest in a solid deputy for the right-wing department. Barcelona’s Raphinha has re-emerged as a transfer target ahead of the summer.
