Tottenham hit major stumbling block in Julian Nagelsmann pursuit

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Julian Nagelsmann who has been out of a job since he was sacked by Bayern Munich in March.

The 35-year-old is tempted by the opportunity to become their new head coach

However, Tottenham have reportedly hit a major stumbling block. According to The Telegraph, Nagelsmann’s contract at Bayern had no termination clause.

Despite sacking him last month, the Bundesliga giants are still paying his £10.6 million annual salary.

The former RB Leipzig boss penned a five-year deal with the Bavarians in 2021, which means he still has more than three years left on his contract.

Signing Naglesman would be very expensive for the Premier League outfit.

The 35-year-old was also high on Chelsea’s wanted list to replace Graham Potter, but he ultimately pulled out of the race. The Blues are set to appoint Mauricio Pochettino in the next few days.

Tottenham are currently going through a challenging period. They recently sacked interim manager Cristian Stellini following the 6-1 loss at Newcastle United.

They have now installed Ryan Mason in the hot seat, but their chances of a top-four finish are slim this season.

They have dropped to seventh in the standings, six points behind Manchester United despite having played two more matches.
