Newcastle plot move for Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic

Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic could be on his way out of the San Siro this summer, with several clubs across Europe keen on securing his services.

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle United are the latest club to register an interest in the Croatia international defensive midfielder.

Once considered untouchable by the Nerazzurri hierarchy, Brozovic could be amongst the players sacrificed this summer with the club looking to balance their books.

Brozovic’s importance in Simone Inzaghu’s side has been reduced, as evidenced by his playing time, having started just 13 of his 21 Serie A appearances.

The 30-year-old has recorded two goals, but his first league assist of the season came in the 3-0 victory over a lowly Empoli side last weekend.

With Inter now willing to do business, several teams are set to slug it out for the midfielder’s signature this summer, with Barcelona also expressing an interest.

The Catalan giants are in the market for a long-term replacement for club legend and stalwart Sergio Busquets, who is approaching the final stages of his career.

Barca manager Xavi Hernandez reportedly sees Brozovic as a like-for-like replacement to Busquets, while Liverpool are also interested in the Croat amid their midfield reinforcement plans.

However, Newcastle have now entered the race for the former Dinamo Zagreb man and are weighing up a €35 million move.

The Magpies are keen on the player, and the prospect of earning a place in next season’s Champions League bodes well for their chances of convincing Brozovic to move to St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s side are third in the Premier League standings, level on points with Manchester United and five ahead of Aston Villa, who have played two more games.

The Tyneside club are keen to add a player of Brozovic’s experience to their ranks to either partner or provide competition for Bruno Guimaraes in the middle of the park.
