Real Madrid will look to build on their weekend victory over Celta Vigo when they visit Girona in a midweek La Liga fixture.
The title hopes are fading away for the defending champions, with Barcelona maintaining an 11-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.
However, they will look to do their best to put the pressure on their arch-rivals in the title race when they face Girona on Tuesday.
Match Preview
Girona’s four-match unbeaten run ended last week with a narrow defeat against Real Valladolid.
However, Girona have performed well this season after returning to the top flight following a three-year absence.
A team comprising Rodrigo Riquelme, Viktor Tysgankov and Arnau Martinez can cause trouble, having already secured a draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in the reverse fixture.
Madrid have embarked on a four-match winning streak since the shock home defeat against Villarreal, including emphatic victories against Chelsea in both legs of the Champions League quarter-finals.
Their La Liga title defence may not have panned out well, but their season is nothing short of a success, having reached the UCL semi-finals of UCL and the Copa del Rey final.
Madrid’s away form in La Liga has been quite concerning lately, and they will look to overcome that when they face Girona.
The growing injury list could prove to be a stumbling block for Madrid, with Karim Benzema – La Liga’s second top scorer – and Eduardo Camavinga ruled out of the clash.
Team News
Aleix Garcia will be unavailable after sustaining an injury in the game against Valladolid. The Spanish midfielder will be a huge miss for the Catalan outfit.
Benzema and Camavinga have joined Ferland Mendy and David Alaba in the Madrid treatment room.
Eden Hazard has picked up an injury in training, while Dani Ceballos is suspended after his booking against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
Vinicius Junior will lead the attack alongside Rodrygo and Marco Asensio, with the latter on an excellent goalscoring run lately.
Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are expected to return to the line-up after starting on the bench against Celta.
Potential Girona starting line-up
Paulo Gazzaniga; Arnau Martinez, Santiago Bueno, Juanpe, Javi Hernandez; Rodrigo Riquelme, Oriol Romeu, Ivan Martin, Viktor Tsygankov; Valentin Castellanos, Cristhian Stuani.
Potential Real Madrid starting line-up
Thibaut Courtois; Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Nacho; Federico Valverde, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric; Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes, Vinicius Junior.
We Say: Girona 1-1 Real Madrid
The absence of French duo Benzema and Camavinga will be a huge loss for Madrid, although they boast a formidable squad overall.
Girona have a great chance to cause a major upset and help Barca inch closer towards winning La Liga.
