Evan Ferguson to sign new Brighton contract amid Chelsea and Man United interest

Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed that young striker Evan Ferguson has signed a new long-term deal keeping him at the club until 2028.

The youngster has been a revelation for the Seagulls this season, contributing eight goals and two assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.

His impressive displays have seen Manchester United and Chelsea keep a watchful eye on his development, but the youngster is set to stay at Brighton.

The Seagulls are keen to keep the 18-year-old with continuing his development under the stewardship of manager Roberto De Zerbi seen as the best call.

“Evan’s contract extension is great news,” De Zerbi said after the young sensation put pen to paper on the new deal.

“He trains and plays like a senior player with many years of experience and has become an important member of the squad. The aim is to help him become one of the strongest strikers in Europe.”

Ferguson joined Brighton from Irish side Bohemians in 2021 after making his senior debut for the club as a 14-year-old during a pre-season game against Chelsea two years earlier.

He made his debut for the club in the 2-1 FA Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion in January 2022 and is seen as one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League.

There is no ceiling to how far Ferguson can develop, especially at Brighton, who are famed for their ability to cater to young talents, and the striker could soon establish himself as one of the best in the world.

The Ireland international is the second member of De Zerbi’s squad to earn a new contract after versatile midfielder Pascal Gross signed a new deal until 2025.

Brighton are enjoying a stellar campaign, sitting in eighth position in the Premier League rankings, just two points behind Aston Villa and on track to finish in the European places.
