Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal’s agent Emerson Zulu says there is a huge chance his client will leave the club this summer.
Royal had established himself on the right side of Tottenham’s 3-4-3 set-up but has struggled for game time since Pedro Porro joined the club from Sporting CP in January.
Spurs are in turmoil amid the current crisis at the club, especially with the circumstances surrounding the departure of sporting director Fabio Paratici, which came after Antonio Conte left the club.
Tottenham were firmly in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League, but the club’s off-pitch problems seem to have caught up with them.
The embarrassing 6-1 defeat to fellow top-four hopefuls Newcastle United effectively knocked them out of the race.
They could also struggle to hang on to a Europa League place with Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool hot on their trail.
Tottenham’s recent struggles have left several players considering their long-term future, and Royal’s recent lack of playing time further pushes him toward the exit door.
“There is a great chance that Emerson will leave Tottenham – that’s what we want,” Zulu said (via Mundo Deportivo).
“We think it’s time for him to take a bigger leap and go to a team that fights for titles. A giant. I think he fits in Real Madrid.”
Royal joined Tottenham from Barcelona in 2021 after returning from a loan stint with Real Betis, where he made 79 appearances, contributing five goals and ten assists.
The Brazilian failed to establish himself with the Catalan giants, making just three appearances, but his agent feels he has what it takes to play for the Spanish champions Madrid.
The 24-year-old has made 32 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing two goals and an assist.
It remains to be seen if the club will sanction a move this summer, but there is set to be an overhaul following an underwhelming campaign.
