Paris Saint-Germain star Carlos Soler is keen on continuing at Parc des Princes beyond the summer despite a poor debut season in Ligue 1.
The Spanish midfielder moved to the French capital from Valencia last summer but has struggled to make the desired impact.
Soler’s transfer has been criticised, leading to rumours that he could be sold after just one season.
However, as reported by L’Equipe, Soler is considered integral to head coach Christophe Galtier’s plans, and the Spanish playmaker is also happy to continue with the club.
Despite struggling for regular minutes at the start, Soler has gradually grown into a key component for Galtier this season in the absence of injured talisman Neymar.
The Spaniard’s return of six goals and three assists may seem inadequate, but he offers plenty of flexibility to play in multiple positions.
The 26-year-old’s importance cannot be understated in Les Parisiens’ successful run in Ligue 1 this season, with the club sitting eight points clear at the top of the table.
Soler is not the only player to come in for criticism this season. Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, Renato Sanches and Hugo Ekitike have all struggled to live up to expectations.
PSG are planning to overhaul the squad following another campaign marred by failure in the Champions League.
Several first-team stars face uncertain futures, while Galtier has also been linked with an exit.
However, recent reports suggest that the Frenchman may have a lifeline, with PSG running out of options for a replacement.
