Roberto De Zerbi reaffirms desire to stay at Brighton despite Inter Milan interest

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi says he wants to continue with the club despite interest from his country.

Inter Milan are ready to dismiss their manager Simone Inzaghi at the end of the season. They are eyeing the Brighton boss as the man to take over.

However, Inter will have to move on from De Zerbi, with the Italian intent on staying in England.

De Zerbi has impressed many in his eight months in the Premier League, where he has the club in eighth position in the Premier League.

The Seagulls have also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they will face a motivated Manchester United.

Speaking to Sportmediaset, De Zerbi said: “I grew up at Milan. I lived for three years at Milanello and my football training comes from Milan – the real one.

“My football education comes from the Milan of Baresi, Tassotti, Maldini, Boban, Savicevic and Costacurta.

“I am a fan of Brescia, but I am grateful to Milan for what they have given me given and for how they raised me. I always have an eye for Milan.

“Inter or Roma? I have not spoken with anyone, but I think that at this moment for my path, for my life, it is important to stay here.

“I had to leave Shakhtar after eight months of work and I did it begrudgingly. To leave Brighton after the same amount of time would feel like not completing the job.

“My will is to stay. Then I’ll have to talk to the club and confront each other to understand what they expect, what they want, what their ambitions are.”

With De Zerbi out of the running for the Inter job, the Nerazzurri will look at their other managerial targets.

They are interested in Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, but he wants to stay in Spain.

Another option is former Inter midfielder and Bologna boss Thiago Motta.
