Marcos Alonso keen on Barcelona stay amid Inter Milan links

Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso is reportedly keen on staying at Camp Nou amid exit speculation.

Despite penning an extension at the start of the year, the Spanish defender faces an uncertain future, with Barca planning a massive clearout in the summer to balance the books.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Alonso was one of the players discussed in a recent meeting with Inter Milan, who have expressed their interest in signing him.

The Nerazzurri have lined up Alonso as a replacement for Robin Gosens, who has been heavily linked with Wolfsburg.

However, the former Chelsea star is not contemplating leaving and wants to continue with the Blaugrana.

Despite not being the first choice for Xavi, Alonso has proved to be a valuable squad player during the injury crisis this season.

The 32-year-old stepped up during the absence of Andreas Christensen in the La Liga victory over Elche and the Copa del Rey semi-final first-leg win against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.

Xavi values Alonso due to his experience and the flexibility to play as a centre-back and a left-back.

The Spanish defender has the option to extend his deal for an additional year until 2025, and his release clause has been set at around €50 million.

Even if the Catalans were to sell him in the summer, it could be for less than the reported release clause.

Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia, Franck Kessie and Raphinha have all been linked with an exit, with the Catalan outfit aiming to generate funds and trim the wage bill with their sales.

The Blaugrana want to avoid complications on the potential return of Lionel Messi to Camp Nou in the summer and also the registration of other signings.
