Premier League: Data model tips Manchester City to pip Arsenal to the title

Manchester City will pip Arsenal to the Premier League title by one point, according to the latest data from FiveThirtyEight.

Arsenal’s mini-wobble over the past two weeks has allowed Man City to close the gap on the Gunners to just four points.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand and are scheduled to face Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on April 26.

The two teams were forecast to finish tied on points at the top of the Premier League table a couple of months ago, but the race has swung City’s way over the past few weeks.

Arsenal have the chance to extend their advantage to seven points on Friday evening, with relegation-threatened Southampton set to visit the Emirates Stadium.

Man City are scheduled to face Sheffield United in the semi-finals of the FA Cup the following day but will undoubtedly have a close eye on the Arsenal game.

With Manchester United also in cup action, their rivals for a place in the top four will have the chance to exert some pressure on them this weekend.

Newcastle United are three points behind the Red Devils, but a victory over Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park would move them up to third place.

However, Spurs will be keen to throw a spanner in the works, as a win would boost their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The London outfit are looking nervously over their shoulders now, with Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion not too far behind them.

In-form Villa visit Brentford this weekend, but Brighton are on the sidelines as they were scheduled to play Man City in the league.

Liverpool’s thumping 6-1 victory at Leeds United on Monday evening has reignited their top-four hopes, and they will fancy their chances of following up at home to Nottingham Forest.
