Chelsea seal €20m deal for Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Paez

Chelsea have received the green light to sign Independiente del Valle wonderkid Kendry Paez.

According to Sky Sports’ reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Blues have struck a deal worth around €20 million for the 15-year-old and are waiting for the final paperwork to be signed.

The Ecuadorian U17 star will only move to Stamford Bridge in 2025 when he turns 18.

Chelsea have been in talks with Paez for months but have beaten Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund to secure his services.

Paez received attention during last year’s Salzburg Next Generation Trophy for U15s, where he produced a string of stellar displays to bag the Player of the Tournament award.

A central midfielder by trade, Paez stands out for his knack for scoring goals.

The Premier League currently boasts talented Ecuadorian stars such as Moises Caicedo, Jeremy Sarmiento and Pervis Estupinan.

The Blues are looking to further enrich their talent pool with the addition of Paez while already possessing highly-coveted youngsters such as David Datro Fofana, Gabriel Slonina, Noni Madueke, Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana and Enzo Fernandez.

Despite boasting one of the most expensive squads in Europe, billionaire owner Todd Boehly has come under scrutiny for Chelsea’s horrendous form.

The appointment of Frank Lampard as caretaker manager following Graham Potter’s dismissal has been seen as a disastrous decision, with the Blues continuing on a downward spiral under the former midfielder.

Chelsea will appoint a new permanent manager this summer, with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique in the running for the job.
