Bayern Munich suspend Sadio Mane after hitting Leroy Sane

Bayern Munich have suspended and fined Sadio Mane after he hit his teammate Leroy Sane after the Champions League game at Manchester City in midweek.

The Senegalese forward will miss his side’s next game against TSG Hoffenheim. Mane apologised before training today and both players trained without problems.

The incident had started on the pitch in the late moments of their 3-0 thumping at the Etihad Stadium.

Sane was on the ball and expecting Mane to come short for it, but the 31-year-old made a forward run expecting a pass.

The former Man City attacker confronted Mane about it, and the incident escalated after the game.

The argument reportedly continued in the dressing room, where the former Liverpool man confronted Sane about his language on the pitch.

Mane was unhappy about how Sane spoke to him and hit him in the lip. Teammates had to separate both men and were disappointed with Mane’s actions.

The altercation is a culmination of Mane’s frustrations this season. He has struggled for the Bavarians since joining from Liverpool last summer.

Mane has played primarily as a centre-forward, replacing Robert Lewandowski, but has struggled to make an impact for his team.

The club recognise that Mane is better suited to playing out wide and is targeting a striker in the summer to allow him the freedom to express himself.

However, Mane must improve his performance levels to return to the club’s good books after the incident.
