Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo has praised AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan for his performance in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the San Siro this evening.
Milan won the game 1-0, with Ismael Bennacer scoring the only goal in the first half.
Maignan made some incredible stops to keep out the Partenopei, including a spectacular one from Di Lorenzo. Napoli sought an equaliser but found the former Lille man impossible to beat.
The French international has been in superb form since returning from a calf injury that kept him out for a lengthy period.
Di Lorenzo believes that Maignan’s saves were instrumental in sealing the victory.
He told Sky Italia (via Football Italia): “Maignan is an excellent goalkeeper. He made some fine saves. Our attitude was good. That bodes well for the second leg.”
The Napoli skipper was unhappy they would be missing some crucial players for the return leg in Naples.
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa received a red card after picking up two bookings.
The first was controversial as there seemed to be a foul on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the build-up.
Kim Min-jae received a yellow card for an angry reaction towards the referee. Both players will miss the second leg.
There are still doubts about whether star striker Victor Osimhen will be fit for the second leg.
The striker was a massive miss for the Partenopei today. If he cannot play, coach Luciano Spalletti can now call on Giacomo Raspadori.
The Italian striker is fit and played the second half of the Milan tie.
The game is far from over, with a second leg to come in six days. Both sides will believe they can find a way to the semi-final.
Waiting for them will likely be another Italian club after Inter Milan beat Benfica 2-0 in the first leg of their tie in Portugal.
