Serie A duo Juventus and AC Milan are eyeing up a move for out-of-favour Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ekitike, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
Ekitike joined the French champions after an impressive breakout campaign at Stade Reims, where he scored ten goals and assisted four in 24 Ligue 1 appearances.
PSG took the 20-year-old on a loan deal with an obligation for a permanent transfer worth around €30 million at the end of the season.
However, taking the big leap of joining the French giants despite the daunting task of competing with the unimpeachable front three of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, has not panned out well for the young striker.
Ekitike has managed just eight starts of his 20 league appearances this term, although he has returned three goals and three assists.
Having turned down offers from Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United in favour of joining his boyhood club last summer, Ekitike could be on the move once again.
Juventus and AC Milan are monitoring the player’s situation at Parc des Princes ahead of a possible summer move, while Newcastle could also return for the Frenchman’s services.
However, doubts over Messi’s future at the club, coupled with Neymar’s recurring injury problems, could offer the striker a glimmer of hope for better fortunes.
Ekitike is under contract until 2027, so it is unlikely PSG, who are reportedly intent on increasing the French contingent at the club, would sanction a departure without properly tapping into the striker’s undeniable talents.
Fueled by a desire to succeed at the club, Ekitike has reportedly expressed a desire to remain in the French capital beyond this term.
If PSG decide to keep him, next season could be pivotal in defining the youngster’s long-term future.
