Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane were reportedly involved in a bust-up following Bayern Munich’s loss to Manchester City in the Champions League last night, according to Bild.
The pair argued on the pitch late in the game, culminating in the Senegalese attacker allegedly hitting Sane in the lip.
Sane was on the ball and expecting Mane to come short for it, but the former Liverpool man had made a run expecting a through pass.
They had a short discussion on the pitch, but it did not end there and continued into the dressing room.
Mane complained about how Sane had spoken to him and allegedly hit Sane. It is unclear whether they will receive punishment for the physical altercation.
Sane was motivated to play well yesterday against his previous employers. The former Schalke 04 attacker looked most likely to score in a very blunt Bayern attack.
Despite his efforts, it was not to be as Man City ran out 3-0 winners. The Bavarians have the task of overturning the deficit in Germany.
Mane came off the bench but was largely anonymous. He has struggled for the Bundesliga side since joining them from Liverpool last summer.
Die Rekordmeister have used him as a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, but it has not worked. The 31-year-old is better out wide.
The Bayern board are aware of the issue and have earmarked €100 million to sign a new striker this summer.
The lack of a central figure in the box was one of their problems against City, as were Dayot Upamecano’s mistakes at the back.
When Bayern got into advanced areas, they did not have a target and ended up recycling possession.
They hope to have top scorer and target man Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting fit for the second leg. They missed the 34-year-old against City.
